Sarah E. Alexander
President

Sarah E. AlexanderSarah Alexander is the founding President of EMPEA, a global association that promotes the development of the private equity asset class in emerging markets. Comprised of more than 250 leading fund managers and institutional investors, EMPEA is the leading industry body representing the interests of PE practitioners in developing countries. Ms. Alexander is a frequent speaker and contributor to industry research, and serves as a Member of the Experts Committee for the World Economic Forum’s Study of the Global Economic Impact of Private Equity.

Prior to EMPEA, Ms. Alexander was a private equity investor in Asia with Emerging Markets Partnership (now EMP Global), managing transactions in infrastructure, communications and basic industry. Previously, Ms. Alexander was with the World Bank, where she designed new initiatives for private sector participation in development finance. Earlier in her career, she worked at the U.S. Department of State, managing international trade and financial policies. She began her career as a foreign policy adviser in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ms. Alexander received an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Masters of Public Administration from Princeton University's WoodrowWilson School, and a BA in history, summa cum laude, from Emory University. She has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and an adjunct professor of finance at Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service.

Carlos Perry
Chief Operating Officer

Carlos PerryAs EMPEA’s Chief Operating Officer, Carlos Perry manages EMPEA’s research, membership, events and business development activities. He is also responsible for EMPEA’s financial and day-to-day operations, and he plays a leadership role in developing new strategic partnerships for the organization. Before joining EMPEA, Mr. Perry was a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Company, working with financial services, media and telecom clients in North America and Asia.

Previously, Mr. Perry served as Executive Vice President – International for the Yankee Group, a technology research firm, where he spent seven years building the company’s fast-growing international operations. Based in London and Boston, he was a member of the senior management team that successfully sold the company to Reuters in 2000. At Yankee, Mr. Perry launched new products, subsidiaries and joint ventures in markets including Japan, the U.K., Australia, Brazil, Mexico, China, Korea and South Africa. He also led consulting engagements related to telecom liberalization in Brazil, India, the UAE, Thailand and other markets, including work for venture capital, private equity, investment banking and government clients. Prior to Yankee Mr. Perry was an entrepreneur and consultant in St. Petersburg, Russia and Budapest, Hungary.

Mr. Perry holds an MBA in finance from Columbia Business School, a Masters of Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a BA in international politics from the Elliott School at George Washington University.

Jennifer Choi
Director of Research

Jennifer ChoiJennifer Choi is the Director of Research for EMPEA. Ms. Choi comes to EMPEA after several years as a lead analyst and engagement manager for Stax Inc., a Boston-based strategic research firm serving the private equity community. Ms. Choi’s other consulting experience includes strategic planning and organizational development with the Wharton School-affiliated Center for Applied Research and Interaction Associates. Ms. Choi holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Augustana College, and a Masters in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. Ms. Choi has traveled extensively in Asia and lived and taught in Tokyo for two years.

Shannon Stroud
Director of Programs and Events

Shannon DelanyShannon Delany is the Director of Conferences and Professional Development for EMPEA. Most recently, Shannon worked as a Principal with private-equity investment firm Pine Creek Partners identifying, reviewing and executing management buyouts and recapitalizations across a variety of industries. She also provided guidance and support to portfolio companies and while there served on the board of Drew Foam Companies Inc. Prior to Pine Creek Partners, she worked with CapitalSource Finance LLC where she originated, analyzed, underwrote and structured senior secured and unsecured debt financings, mezzanine capital and equity co-invests within the specialty finance and security industries. Prior to joining CapitalSource in 2003, Shannon worked with Fannie Mae, Microstrategy and finally Arthur Andersen's Business Consulting Group where she began her career. Shannon earned an MBA from Georgetown's McDonough School of Business and graduated cum laude from the University of Richmond where she received a B.A. in Economics and International Studies with a concentration in International Economics and a minor in Journalism and French. She has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Latin America and studied and lived in Paris through the MICEFA program, a consortium of the Universities of France.

Kyoko Terada
Manager, Member Services

Kyoko TeradaKyoko Terada is the Manager of Member Services at EMPEA. Previously, she has held research analyst and senior editor positions at Dittberner Associates, a telecommunications management consulting firm. Prior experiences have included research assistant internships at the United Nations in Geneva, the US State Department, and the United Nations Association in Boston and London. While an undergraduate student, Ms. Terada studied Modern British History and Politics at Oxford University. She has lived and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia.

Ms. Terada holds a B.A. in International Relations from Boston University and an M.A. in International Law and Human Rights from American University.

Nadiya Satyamurthy
Research Associate 

Nadiya Satyamurthy is a Research Associate at EMPEA. Prior to joining EMPEA, Ms. Satyamurthy worked as a Public Finance Fixed Income Associate for three years, initially at UBS Investment Bank and most recently Merrill Lynch, where she assisted numerous not-for-profit organizations evaluate their financial management strategies and access the tax-exempt bond market.  Additionally, Ms. Satyamurthy previously served as a Senior International Business Associate for MASA, Inc., an international consulting firm focused on structuring strategic international partnerships and devising creative solutions for startups interested in raising capital. In this role, Ms. Satyamurthy focused on several sectors including nanotechnology, biotechnology and healthcare within East Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Ms. Satyamurthy holds a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University with concentrations in International Studies and French and a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International & Public Affairs with a concentration in International Finance.

Holly Freedman
Manager, Programs and Events


Holly Freedman is the Manager of Programs and Events at EMPEA. Previously, she worked on the research team at EMPEA. Other prior experiences include coordinating educational programs in Maryland for international and learning disabled students as well as development work with the World Affairs Council of Houston. While studying in France, Ms. Freedman earned Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française at the Université Paul-Valéry in Montpellier. She completed the first year of her graduate studies in Bologna, Italy where she studied economics and international law while teaching English to local students.

Ms. Freedman graduated cum laude from Rice University with a B.A. in Policy Studies and English. She holds a M.A. (with Distinction) in International Relations with a specialization in International Finance from the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University.

Harrison Moskowitz
Research Analyst

Harrison MoskowitzHarrison Moskowitz is a Research Analyst at EMPEA. Previously, Mr. Moskowitz held research positions at the Scowcroft Group and the Watson Institute for International Studies. Prior experiences have included a manufacturing internship with K2 Sports in Hong Kong and military training at USMC Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia. While an undergraduate student, Mr.Moskowitz studied History and European Studies at the Sorbonne and the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. Active on Brown University’s campus, he was a member of the campus Relay for Life committee, the varsity wrestling team, and the University Working Group for Internationalization.

Mr. Moskowitz graduated from Brown University with concentrations in History and International Relations.

Carolyn Kolb

Administrative Assistant

Carolyn Kolb is the Administrative Assistant at EMPEA.  While an undergraduate student at Georgetown University, Ms. Kolb served as a Program Intern for AmericaSpeaks, a non-profit organization promoting citizen engagement.  She was also the Communications Director at Georgetown’s University Pep Band and Co-Chair of the Senior Class Committee. She studied Modern French History and Politics at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (IEP) in Lyon, France.  Through this experience and others, she has lived and traveled extensively in Europe. 

Ms. Kolb graduated cum laude from Georgetown University in May 2009 with a B.A. in Government and History and a minor in French.
